Power tools with Children: How to Safely facilitate students making and designing with tools.

Log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Making and design classes and projects are all the rage these days. Digital fabrication is popular with schools, but physical fabrication is an area where schools can improve, and better serve our students. Sometimes the best way to make something is with tools and our hands. Schools can be resistant to letting students use tools. It's understandable, power tools are expensive and can be scary. But they don't have to be! Power tools and hands on making are an experience that most of our students lack these days. Being able to safely work with and design with tools is a fantastic skill to teach students. Don't be intimidated about using tools. Come explore tools usage, safety and projects in KIS's makerspace and wood shop. Hope you like sawdust!

Session Objectives:

To explore different power tools, and how to use them safely with students
To promote and grow the maker mindset in all classrooms.
Share ideas on student design and making with power tools.
