This session is mainly for middle and high school science teachers, however, some of these strategies can be used in elementary levels and all math levels, too. Participants will gain skills on effective formative assessment use, specific formative assessment questions (probes into students’ thinking about content), methods to increase student participation in activities and classroom discussions, and a basic understanding of a guided 5 E model of inquiry-based instruction. This session is grounded in affective inquiry, coupled with hands-on science investigations and engaging formative assessment strategies. Participants engage in all aspects of learning during this session...actually modeling what their students will do when these strategies are implemented in the classroom, the most effective way of insuring new ideas and strategies will be replicated.
