In this session, attendants will learn about the AXEXES acronym (argument, example, elaboration, example, elaboration, and so what?) and how to use it to teach and assess writing. Attendees will examine each part of the acronym in order to better understand the expectations and how to use this format, as well as examine and practice-score exemplar and developing mentor texts using the AXEXES rubric in order to give meaningful feedback on writing. Attendees will receive materials such as graphic organizers, worksheets, mentor texts, and rubrics. This paragraph format can be used to analysis or research of any kind and from any content area.

Session Objectives:

Gain an understanding of the AXEXES paragraph format and how to use it to teach and assess writing.
