It seems like lately Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop are getting all the hype lately, but what about math? In this session, we will demonstrate how conferences can be used in math, just as they are used in literacy. As a broad introductory course, we will focus on developing and/or finding rich mathematical tasks to use in your classroom, and through conferring elicit and push student thinking by using Common Core’s mathematical practices.

Session Objectives:

1. Identify and select rich mathematical tasks that require flexible thinking.
2. Develop skills for eliciting and pushing students' understanding in math through conferring.
